How Does Physical Therapy Help You?

Physical therapy or Physiotherapy is a cutting-edge treatment method that utilizes natural physical approaches to reduce pain and promote overall wellness. It's a top alternative therapy covered by insurance due to its numerous benefits:

Speedy body repair: Physiotherapy helps repair your body quickly and optimally.

Better quality of life: Physiotherapy can enhance your quality of life.

Versatile treatment: Physiotherapy can treat a variety of conditions.

Patient empowerment: Physical therapy encourages patients to participate more actively in their recovery.

Physiotherapists employ various techniques, including massage, exercise, cupping, stretching, and other modalities, to manage physical pain caused by injury, disease, disorders, or aging.

Who is a Physical Therapist?

Health professionals who provide the necessary physical therapy to relieve an individual of pain or other conditions are called physical therapists, physiotherapists, or physios. Not only pain, but physiotherapists also treat individuals suffering from physical problems caused by illness, injury, disease, and aging.

Physical therapists use an integrated approach to improve the quality of life of people facing pain-related mobility issues. Physiotherapists often use a variety of alternative treatments to alleviate pain and restore function. They also aim to lessen physical dysfunction and improve the quality of life.

Why You Should See a Physiotherapist

In many cases, an injury is a result of some other factors. A physical therapist, along with treating the pain, also treats the underlying causes so that it heals the injury and brings about a lifestyle change, and the reasons for the pain are taken care of.

For example, back pain can be caused if you are slouching at your computer the whole day, if you are working out without warming up and stretching, or even when you are overweight. A physiotherapist works on your body and helps restore motion while also suggesting lifestyle changes to prevent the reoccurrence of the same issue.

Depending on your age, your general practitioner may suggest you work with a physio. Their whole-body approach promotes healthy aging, enabling them to stay independent and work for as long as possible. Specialized physiotherapy treatments and exercises help prevent the recurrence of the disease to a large extent.

What Does a Physical Therapist Do?

A physical therapist works with patients with different conditions every day. So, a physiotherapist can be seen working on creating a specialized action plan for a particular patient. He/she needs to assess the condition of the patient and implement a treatment plan. Physios also have specializations; depending on them, they can work with different types of patients and diseases. They also help with walking with crutches, walking frames, or wheelchairs.

  • Muscle strains
  • Headaches
  • Tendinosis

  • Functional training
  • Stretching
  • Self-management strategies
  • Taping
  • Joint mobilization
  • Workout prescription
  • Massage
  • Dry needling

What to Expect When You Visit a Physiotherapist

People are often surprised when they first visit a physiotherapist. Here are a few things you should expect on your first visit to a physical therapist.

Appointment length

A physiotherapy session typically lasts from 30 minutes to 1 hour, from one to several times a week, depending on why someone is taking the therapy.

Physiotherapy treatment usually involves a lot of stretches, moves, or even possibly breaking a sweat. So, wear loose attire that allows the easy movement of joints to a large range. Do not wear tight-fitting clothes that restrict motion. Not all physiotherapy centers will have changing rooms, so prepare beforehand.

Subjective Assessment

A physiotherapist will usually have a host of queries for you to answer. He/she may ask about how you got the injury or how painful the condition is on a scale of 1 to 10. What makes the pain go away? What makes the pain worse? They may ask different such questions to gauge your condition.

Objective Assessment

Next comes the part when your physical therapist will move your joints and muscles in a way to check where and how much worse the situation is. This will help them to create a suitable treatment plan.

Exercises and Treatment

You may break a sweat at this part, typically involving a physiotherapist assisting you in making a range of motion to ease the pain.

He will also sow some exercises you must practice until your next appointment.
